Coaching has become acceptable to both business and individuals for numerous reasons, but people will generally work with coaches because they are ready to make some type of positive change, and they want positive results with a lot less hassle. People are realizing how simple and straightforward it is to create constructive change and accomplish things with a coach supporting and guiding the way.

Coaching can be defined as the practice of supporting an individual, referred to as a client, in the process of achieving a special personal or professional result. The role of a coach is to assist people to identify specific goals and then reach those goals faster and easier than without a coach. Coaching is unlocking a person potential's to maximize their own performance. It is a process that enables the learning and development to occur and thus the client to improve.

Some people work with a coach to help them achieve general goals and objectives. While others will work with a coach to help them accelerate their personal and professional development, help them through a life transition such as a career change, a divorce, or to assist them in starting or growing a business.

You can also find coaches that work with and focus on weight management, stress, life, lifestyle, fitness, health, wellness, self-care, relationships, confidence, romance, sex, parenting, success, personal development, spirituality, and religion.

Working with a coach to improve your personal and professional development, health, fitness, and wellness is no different than an athlete that hires a coach to help him or her train in sports. There are a many key styles and approaches to coaching, but all forms of coaching have certain underlying principles which should generate a measurable positive impact towards improving and developing a skill or major life area. Unlike sports coaching which results are competition oriented and win or lose based, the Life, Health and Wellness coaches primarily focus on helping the client cope and succeed in all major life areas.

Life, Health and Wellness Coaching is different from therapeutic counseling disciplines. Therapy brings understanding and awareness of the past to a client; coaching provides the support and strategy to make changes based on the awareness, attitudes and desire of a client. Coaching is more action plan based and movement oriented discipline then therapy.

The coach will not do the work for you, but is there to help you get to the next level. A key function of coach is to observe, listen, and ask questions to understand their client's situation and desire. The coach can be a confidant, a sounding board for you talk to about the personal and professional things that are going on in your life. Your coach should be understanding and non-judgmental while providing realistic, positive feedback and counsel. Your coach can help you identify and work in areas that need improvement. Your coach is great source of creative ideas that you can brainstorm with, try out new ideas, and feel that it's safe to experiment without being judged or criticized. Coaching can be performed with an individual, groups, in person, over the phone, online, or any in combination.

You will work closely with your coach to setup appropriate, realistic goals, and methods of assessing progress in relation to the goals. Your coach will encourage you to commit to action and to continuously develop and sustain all major life areas. Your coach can help you gain clarity and assist you in turning your plans into reality.
