Plate Spinning

Life is similar to art of spinning plates

Plate spinning is a circus manipulation art form where a person spins plates, bowls or other flat objects on poles or sticks held vertically in stands. Plate spinning performers typically spin multiple plates at one time. These acts were a popular on the Ed Sullivan Show and other American TV variety and talent shows during the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's.

You go onto the stage as the circus/clown music plays in the background. You start by placing and spinning a plate on a stick, and then you continue to place and spin as many plates as you can on the sticks without any of the plates falling down. If you start spinning too many plates or pay too much attention to one plate, the other plates soon start to wobble and need attention or they will fall down. You do as much as you can, as quickly as you can, and before you know it, the music stops, the audience applauds, and you get off the stage.

Life is similar to art of spinning plates in that you come onto the stage (born), do your act (live), and then the act is over (die). The objective of the performer, in this case (you), is to create a happy, fulfilling, and memorable experience while trying to successfully spin all nine plates at the same time, for as long as you can. Each plate represents one of the nine areas of your life-wellness. The performer is judged by certain achievements, such as his ability to maintain balance, timing, rhythm, and exhibit a good approach from beginning to end. The performer is also judged by his ability to maintain a good attitude while successfully dealing with the challenges that may come up.

As said before, going onto the stage is equivalent to being born. Each plate represents a key life-wellness area. You must pay attention and apply effort to all of the nine major areas of life, or one or more will start to wobble and you cause problems. If this happens, you will then have to spend valuable time and effort trying to revitalize and stabilize the problem area. If any area (plate) is not maintained correctly, you may continue to face ongoing problems that require a substantial amount of time and effort which will take away from other areas. Other areas then will start to suffer and cause a trickling effect. The trick or challenge is to maintain balance between all the major life areas/plates for as long as you can, until life/performance ends.

Hopefully, right before it's ends, you will be able to look back and accurately remember how you performed. It's important to see how many plates/key areas of life you were able to spin successfully, and for a long period of time. It is also important that you are able to appreciate and enjoy your life performance. Everything may not have gone exactly as you planned or anticipated, but hopefully, it was an exciting and fulfilling experience that was full of love, fun, and joy. Time goes by so quickly.

In this scenario, the plates represent the nine major areas of life-wellness.
